Stefan Sagmeister created the new brand identity for EDP Renováveis, one of the world's largest and fastest-growing wind energy companies. At Sagmeister Inc. credits go to Creative Director Sagmeister and Senior Art Director Jessica Walsh, along with illustrations by Walsh, Stephane Elbaz, Xavi Garcia and Michael Freimuth. "Since my departure in 2007," Blake began, "I have always kept an eye on what BNS has been doing, and I felt like there was a perfect opportunity for us to collaborate once again. My main focus is to bring unity to the compositing and set up a really great workflow. I am always interested in tackling challenging shots and problem solving to find creative solutions. I also enjoy mentoring junior artists and helping others grow. In my absence from BNS I was able to refine my skillset through collaborations with different artists with different techniques. Mitchum launched the latest TV ad for its "Love Thy Pits" campaign, showing a mom who's cool under pressure. She might be panicked on the outside, but her pits stay calm and dry. It's not every day that you pick up your son from soccer practice, drive off and then realize you have the wrong kid in your back seat, is it? "Dawson's Kid" goes home to his family and the woman's actual son is "triple seat-belted in the back seat of the less-than-pimped minivan." See it here. "...Obviously, we were already very familiar with the brand," Notaro said, "so when asked how we felt the network should evolve, we decided to approach it as a 'rethink' instead of a 'refresh' or a 'redesign': We kept some of the strategies, but took the visual language from the paint, ink and doodle elements of the 2003 package into the digital realm. Now the whole visual language is about video making and remixing. I'm amazed by how far we were allowed to take the graphics package, which is a real testament to FUEL's commitment to their visually literate target audience..."

I love a good mystery. Do you know why Jack Daniel's whiskey has "Old No. 7" on its label? Neither does the brand. The first ad speculates that number 7 was JD's lucky number, or the train that carried his barrels across country, or the number of women in his life. Don't expect a resolution, only more speculation. See the ad here. "Proud" portrays JD as a man "who never varied from his recipe, and stayed true to the process." Like "Old No. 7," "Proud" is animated and shot in black and white. See it here. Arnold created the ads, produced by Brand New School.

..."We were challenged to illustrate Brizo's patent SmartTouch Technology," said BNS art director Mario Sader, "which allows people to touch anywhere on the faucet's body or handle to turn water on or off -- while also connecting to their concept of illustrating dreams." Beginning with the idea of using elements of a dish our talent was preparing for her dinner guests," Sader continued, "we added illustrations of birds, flowers and a mermaid, and recombined the pieces to form our narrative. The virtual kitchen environment was created in post, to give us more control over the camera movements and the timing. For finishing, we composited footage of watercolor over the elements to create the transitions and washes that give the illustrations extra realism."...

As the tagline says, “What the label doesn’t tell you, a sip will.” Brand New School founder and creative director Jonathan Notaro directed all three spots. Additional BNS credits go to Executive Producer Danny Rosenbloom and Producers Toby Sowers and Mike Sullo. BNS also handled all animation and post production for the campaign. E sendo publicitário, ainda posso dizer uma coisa com muito orgulho: a maioria das empresas manda muitíssimo bem nas suas propagandas. Não bastasse a Johnnie Walker e seu conceito fortemente martelado de estar um passo a frente, agora o bom e velho (e quiçá único scotch bom, feito nos EUA) vem com um comercial, feito pelo grande estúdio Brand New School. Brand New School
Anheuser-Busch recently made a big stir by buying all the national ads for an episode of "Saturday Night Live" to air spots for its newest product, Bud Light Golden Wheat. The event represents the first time in the 35-season history of the show that a single advertiser bought all the commercial time in the broadcast. Of course, once you’ve made a huge media buy like this, the next question is, what to run? For Bud Light and agency Palm Havas, the answer was supplied by Brand New School, which was tapped to produce spots that went by the umbrella title “Huge.” A mix of live action product photography and dynamic pour shots that present the product as a glowing, golden glass of flavor, several spots were directed by BNS founder and Creative Director Jonathan Notaro. The campaign includes “Cap Twist, Zoom In" and "Through the Glass,” both of which are thirties, and a fifteen-second spot tiled "Unfiltered Fun." (Check out “Cap Twist; Zoom In” here.) Agency credits go to Dan Kohler, William Mericle and Jason Stanfield. Brand New School credits go to EP Danny Rosenbloom, AD Mario Sader, 3D animator Andre Salyer, D of P Jim Matlosz and Editor Erik Barnes. Sound design was provided by Shawn Ballman of Sound Slave.

Brand New School
Bi-coastal directing collective Brand New School recently collaborated with L.A.-based agency Secret Weapon Marketing to create a new campaign for Clear Internet, the company that’s blanketed several major US cities with wireless Internet access. Following a first-person camera view blended with quirky transitions, the spots, titled “Dogpark” and “Picnic,” show potential Clear customers how they can use seamless, high-speed Internet in a range of locations previously untouched by Wi-Fi, or in this case, Wi-Max signals. Directed by Brand New School director/founder Jonathan Notaro, the three-spot campaign conveys the idea of enjoying the comforts of Clear's super-fast mobile Internet from anywhere in the citysuch as the dog park, on your commute or while getting your nails done at the salon. Says Notaro, "I wanted the transitions to have a realistic, theatrical feel to them, so we created them from location to location in camera. We pre-visualized the motion, and the sets were built on glides based on the motion established in the 3D previz. The art department crew became the animators, pulling the individual elements in a complex order that was established after many rehearsals.” Agency credits go to Cameron Webb, Dick Sittig, Leah Dieterich and Randy Zook.
