THE FEELINGS OF A ROSE

She is dying in the garden,
In the midst of color's bloom;
with her tears disguised as dewdrops...
No one recognizing doom.

But her velvet heart is wilting,
And she aches with silent shame;
Meaning only to give pleasure,
Her sharp thorns gave piercing pain.

RUSTY DUSTY DREAMS

Polished with hope, built upon faith...
Tomorrow, uncluttered and sure;
Confidence gave such a good start
But somehow, just couldn't endure.

Hope didn't shine, it grew rusty...
Someone lost truth, grew confused.
Then dust quickly settled and covered
Brand new dreams that never got used.

ACROSS THE MILES AND IN MY HEART

It's a Wednesday and my thoughts today and often
Travel across the many miles
From Orlando, Florida to a precious mama
In her room in Greenville, Illinois.

The picture in my mind is a lovely sight
That my heart holds dear in its center.
She is what has made me...
She is what has made our family;
She is our daily blessing.

It's a Wednesday and memories Speak
Of years past... shared laughter and love and joys
That wrapped us in a package
Called "LIFE"...
That named us "Bea's children".
With pride, we carry a part of her within ourselves.

I look around my own room and see her gifts;
I look within my own life and feel her presence.
There is a breadboard...clean now;
No dumplings or noodles or bread upon its surface.
What was her working tool
Has become my treasure...
Just as she has been for me all thru my life.

DAD WAS...

A gentle, giant fairy man...
Bearing gifts to a scruffy girl child
Who wandered thru shaded forests,
Along the banks of an enchanted creek
And felt herself one of Nature's creatures
Later, discovering she was truly His child instead...also.

His blue eyes...and His laughter...
His stories drawn from days of youth
...Inspired the girl child's need for adventures of her own.
His judgments...His wisdom...
A thunderstorm that brought fear,
A rainbow promising protection.

Dreams shared...
His, as she grew and was in danger.
Hers, when He was gone...not there to touch.
Her world was so safe while He was there to guard her heart...
The new world, without Him, was much more cruel...
He stood near...but could no longer help her.

She had walked as a child in His footsteps
...Following.
She had held His hand
While He was holding her.
There had been a time long ago and far away...
